For the sake of my Japanese readers, I will attempt to write today's article both in Japanese and English atlternatively.
英語だけだと、読みにくいと思われる方もいらっしゃると
思いますので、日本語も途中に交えて書いて見ます。
訳するのではなく、考えるがままに言語を変えていきます。
どちらかの言葉だけを読んでいても、
話の趣旨が伝わるように心がけて書いてみます。
昨日に引き続きOVAL決勝戦のお話です。
The topics chosen by the six final presentations alone indicated the uniquensess of the OVAL contest. For example, "Re-bound Education Insurance Company" by the fifth team was about selling an insurance policy for those who are concerned about failing university entrance exams. By signing up for such a policy, the insured can receive the financial support for studying an extra year for the exams.
大学受験に落ちた人のための、保険を考えるなんて、
受験に真剣なアジア人にしか思いつかないだろう
というような、トピックが出てくるところが、
このコンテストの面白さの一部だなと感心しました。
このチームは特に韓国の学生からの意見が採用された
ようですが、日本にもまして受験戦争が韓国や、
中国にあると聞いています。とても日本人だけでは
思いつかないトピックでもあったかと思いました。
While this insurance topic suggests particular local interest and needs in today's Asian countries, especially in Korea and China, some topics indicated the concerns of the Asian youth are universal as humans.
健康と美容の促進をになう、
"Better Self, Better Life"や、
芸術家の育成とビジネスを考えた
"Artculator (Art+Circulator)"などは、
韓国や中国の若者も、国籍に関わらず人間として共通の
必要性を訴える思いが同じなのだと感じさせてくれます。
このような万国共通の考えが立証されるのも、
この大会の面白さでした。
Before the announcement of the winners, I had the honor of speaking to the students on behalf of the Japanese sponsors.
OVALとは"Our Vision for Asian Leadership"の略
だそうで、まさしくこれからの世界で必要とされていること
を言い表した言葉だということ。そして、こういうことに
チャレンジできる羨ましい世代に生まれた、
才能ある３国の学生のビジョンとリーダーシップが
発揮されて大会は成功。
でもこの経験をもとに、これからが本当にその力が
問われる時となるので期待している。
というような主旨でお話させていただきました。
The winning teams were announced from the third place winner, and it was Team Kurobegawa.
働く男性の心の悩みを解消するカウンセリングサービスの企画を出したチームが3位でした。
Their title was "Anonymen," a term coined from "Anoymous men."
The second place winner went to Team Kamogawa who presented the idea of "Queen Bee Nursery Service."
働く女性の育児支援のため、中小企業のサポートによる託児所の設置を訴えたプレゼンが2位に選ばれました。
And finally, the first prize winner! The honor went to Team Shinanogawa, "Likeafamily.com"
日本の高齢化社会に焦点をあてて、孤独な老人を生み出さないシステムを考えたチームが栄冠に輝きました。
And then the time has come to close the OVAL 2009 Tokyo contest.
最後は各国実行委員長と司会者から、それぞれの熱い思いを綴ったスピーチで閉会となりました。
Regardless of the results of the contest, everyone looked joyful and satisfied.
みんなの歓喜ぶりに刺激されて、アゴス会長の横山さんと私はお互いの会社のロゴマークを指差して、年齢忘れてちょっとはしゃぎすぎ？！横山さんには、このOVALを教えていただいただけでなく、いつも仲良くさせていただいて、感謝しています。
Because I had a class to teach at kaplan that night, I had to leave the party soon. But just attending the first part of it, I knew that the event was a huge success and that the students did all their best. By this time, the students must be heading back to their own cities, towns and homes, but we all look forward to...
